Attachment-Focused EMDR for Trauma

and other distressing life experiences

The mind/body has an innate and healthy ability to process painful past experiences so we can learn from those experiences and grow. A trauma, however, is an event or series of events that overwhelm and disrupt this natural capacity. The result can be a constant state of living one's trauma instead of our lives.

Trauma can occur as the result of a large, single event such as violence, natural disasters, accidents or a serious loss. Trauma can also be the legacy of more cumulative and pervasive early events

Attachment-Focused EMDR is a client-centered and culturally responsive innovation in the field of trauma that specifically works to repair the effects of relational, attachment, and developmental traumas on the mind-body throughout the lifecycle. Common issues include anxiety, phobias, depression, relationship, work issues, ethnic discrimination, racism, or other hate crimes including LBGTQIA traumas and vicarious traumas. Early attachment traumas can include parental misattunement, parental alcohol and substance use and abuse, physical, sexual, emotional abuse, and neglect, medical traumas, significant early losses or living in a family where relational traumas have been passed down from generation to generation. The consequences of such traumas can be persistent and pervasive in that they become part of the neural circuitry of the brain and can affect how one feels, thinks, perceives and acts in relationship to self and others.

The goal of treatment is to carefully and safely process stuck traumatic memories and restore the mind/body to a more present, resilient and natural state of wholeness, balance and perspective. Together we put the traumatic events into the past so you may gain the vitality and freedom to love, work and play.
